LinkedIn introduces a new and upcoming feature rolling out soon – Cover Story

LinkedIn recently announced a new tool called Cover Story – not yet available in the UK but slowly rolling out globally. It is aimed at helping users share their professional skills via an introductory video within their profiles.

The idea of the video Cover Story is to give you the opportunity to personalise your profile with an introductory message that people can view or plays automatically when they look at your profile.

The video can showcase how you might help a viewer be it with your skills, experience, services, career goals (if you are looking for a new job) and engage more effectively with your audience.

Once you have added it to your profile, LinkedIn says “an orange ring will appear around your Profile photo, and a preview of your video will auto-play silently within your photo frame. LinkedIn likes to think of it as the “Harry Potter” effect – sigh.

We think that this could be a good way for those comfortable on video to get themselves across even better but can see a few nervous clips coming soon too.

Like many changes within LinkedIn, we will wait to see what the adoption is like (when we get to see it in the UK) and its impact before making any changes.

Sometimes the new ideas are great but occasionally they don’t work as well as LinkedIn hoped.
