How to send a personalised LinkedIn invite from a mobile phone

We can’t reiterate enough how important it is to send a personalised LinkedIn connection invite every time you send one, rather than using the standardised “I’d like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn” invite.

“Why?” you may ask.

Well, how do you feel when you receive a standard “I’d like to connect with you” message?  Special?

Do you feel that the person has taken the time to look you up, that they are really interested in connecting with you as a person, or do you feel like you are one of hundreds of people they have sent this message to with the view of purely increasing the number of connections they have, or to help them to get ready to spam you with messages (the maximum bulk invites they can send is 10000!)? We all love those (not).

We are guessing that a “I’d like to connect with you” invite leaves you feeling cold and disinclined to accept, and this is how people would feel if you sent this invite to them.

On the web browser version of LinkedIn, it’s easy to personalise an invite but on the mobile app you don’t get a prompt, just the option to connect or message.

However, if you click on the more button on the right-hand side you will see a drop-down menu that includes the option to personalise an invite.

You can then add your personalised message (up to 300 characters long) before hitting send invitation.

In our experience you will get more connection requests accepted when you imagine what you would say if you were in front of that person and wanted to connect, and then personalise your message accordingly.
