How to back up or export your LinkedIn connections

LinkedIn has become a critical business tool and as such I often receive notes asking how to back up the connections on a LinkedIn account for a variety of reasons.

It might be that you’re:

  • trying to extract all the details to populate a customer relationship management (CRM) system.
  • adding them to a mailing program (like Mailchimp, Constant Contact or others).
  • wanting to review or sort your connections in a spreadsheet so you can manage them better.
  • just backing them up as a good practice (which I do!).

and more!

It is a straightforward process, just complete these easy steps:

  1. Using your desktop or laptop go into LinkedIn and select “My Network” from the top menu.
  2. Select “Contacts” from the lefthand menu, see below, or alternatively select “connections” from the same menu and then select “Manage synced and imported contacts” on the top right – it will get you to the same place!
  3. Then select “Export contacts” as you can see below.
  4. Then select the datasets that you would like to extract or select your archive for all of it.

You will then receive a notification confirming your choice and it can take up to 24 hours for LinkedIn to send you a link, depending on how much of your data you look to extract and back up.

It just gives you another way to get even more value from your LinkedIn or manage it more effectively.
